Author Spotlight/Interview: Abi Ketner & Missy Kalicicki

Posted July 19, 2013 by sarah in Author Spotlight, Giveaway, Uncategorized / 8 Comments

Abi and Missy met in the summer of 1999 at college orientation and have been best friends ever since. After college, they added jobs, husbands and kids to their lives, but they still found time for their friendship. Instead of hanging out on weekends, they went to dinner once a month and reviewed books. What started out as an enjoyable hobby has now become an incredible adventure.

Abi Ketner is a registered nurse with a passion for novels, the beaches of St. John, and her Philadelphia Phillies. A talented singer, Abi loves to go running and spend lots of time with her family. She currently resides in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with her husband, triplet daughters and two very spoiled dogs.

Missy Kalicicki received her bachelor’s degree from Millersville University in 2003. She’s married, had two boys and currently lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Aside from reading and writing, her interests include running and mixed martial arts. She also remains an avid Cleveland sports fan.

Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best.
Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.

Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.

Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.

The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.
My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story

Sarah’s Review: I really enjoyed this book and the characters in it. I was getting some anxiety over the relationship between Cole and Lexi but that’s what makes it a great book. It keeps you wanting more from the story and the characters. I thought this book had an interesting twist to the whole “innocent until proven guilty” and if someone didn’t like you, you were pretty much screwed. I can’t wait to see what happens in the book!  Oh and I love a man in a uniform! 😉

Interview with Abi & Missy

With you ladies co-writing together how do you
split the work load?
It just depends
on what scene it is and who has more time. Our writing usually ends up being so
intertwined that you can’t tell who writes what a lot of times.

How many books will be in the Sinner Series?

We’re planning on 2 and maybe a prequel. However, that
could change.
J

When is book #2 due out? And do you have title
for it yet?

For book 2, we’re
shooting for December. We had a name for it, and then decided against it once
we started rewriting. So right now we don’t have a title. haha.

What was your inspiration for writing Branded?

Our inspiration…
well, we used to meet at an Italian restaurant to catch up. Inevitably, we’d
end up talking about what books we were reading. Then we decided to write our
own! Abi came up with branding people with the seven sins and I started
thinking of a back story. We finished it in 3 months and thought maybe it’d be
a story worth publishing.

If you could have lunch with any author (past or
present) who would it be?

For
Abi it would be Stephenie Meyer because that’s the person that got Abi into
reading & writing. For Missy, it would be either Ann Rinaldi or Bodie
Thoene because I devoured their books when I was younger!

What book are you reading right now?
Right now, Missy just finished up James Dashner’s
‘Kill Order’ which was phenomenal. Abi is working on Cassandra Clare’s Infernal
Devices. (Which is also a great series!)

What do you do in your spare time?

In Abi’s spare time she reads, writes, works out, and
spends time with family. In my spare time, I write, read, run or do anything
outdoors, and spend time with family. We both have young children so we’re both
kept hopping! Haha

Anything else we should know about you?

We are so thankful for the people that have encouraged
us along the way, and for the ones who have read the book & have told us
how much they loved it. It’s incredible, as authors, to meet people w ho truly
love your work. So thank you!!!
