Author Spotlight/Interview: Jay Crownover

I’m a native Coloradoan and if you live here you know why that is a source of pride.  I love all the things Colorado has to offer and that is why I choose to set my books in this familiar setting.  I try to write about things I know and am familiar with which is why my stories feature plenty of rock and roll and body modification.

I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and I spend over forty hours a week watching the interaction between men and women in a unique way.  I think my 9 to 5 job offers me valuable insights into how relationships start and evolve in a social setting.  I love it.

I like to write New Adult novels because I remember being in my early twenties and thinking I had it all figured out only to be proven wrong time and time again.  When I look back those were the years that defined who I am today, and good or bad those decisions untimely set me on my current path, so that’s what I like to explore in my writing.

Shaw Landon loved Rule Archer from the moment she laid eyes on him. Rule is everything a straight–A pre-med student like Shaw shouldn’t want–and the only person she’s never tried to please. She isn’t afraid of his scary piercings and tattoos or his wild attitude. Though she knows that Rule is wrong for her, her heart just won’t listen.

To a rebel like Rule Archer, Shaw Landon is a stuck-up, perfect princess-and his dead twin brother’s girl. She lives by other people’s rules; he makes his own. He doesn’t have time for a good girl like Shaw-even if she’s the only one who can see the person he truly is.

But a short skirt, too many birthday cocktails, and spilled secrets lead to a night neither can forget. Now, Shaw and Rule have to figure out how a girl like her and a guy like him are supposed to be together without destroying their love . . . or each other.

Sarah’s Review: Holy hotness Batman! I couldn’t put this book down at all! I’m so glad my friend introduced me to this series and I can’t wait to read the next book! I’m so glad there are authors out there that find guys in tattoos as hot as I do!

With his tight leather pants and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn’t want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet’s dark, haunted eyes. She’s afraid of getting burned from the sparks of their spontaneous combustion, even as his touch sets her on fire.

Jet can’t resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he’s tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows firsthand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships.

Will the blaze burn into an enduring love. . . or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?

Sarah Review: Man, I love Jet! I was really nervous where this book was going at one point but it turned out in such a great way! I can’t for Rome to come out!!

Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.

Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.

Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever.

I can’t wait until January for this book!

Interview

How many books do you plan on having in the
Marked Men Series?
6 After Rome comes out in Jan. I would like the
rest of the series to go, Nash, Rowdy and then end with Asa’s story.

Will there be any novellas to follow up with the
other couples?  Or would the follow up be
in the next books?

I don’t have any novellas planned for now, but I
never say never so we’ll have to see. Rule and Shaw will always be in each book
as their relationship moves forward.

How would you describe Rome?

Intense. He’s a layered character filled with all
kinds of inner turmoil and conflict. He has been the most interesting guy to
write. Plus I think he’s really hot…like over the top hot. Which is weird
because out of all the guys physically he is the farthest from my actual type
in real life. There is just something about him that makes him seem larger than
life.

What was your inspiration for writing the Marked
Men Series?
I read an awful lot. I was having a hard time
relating to a lot of the male characters that were being portrayed as these
tattooed, edgy guys. They weren’t real. They weren’t authentic and it occurred
to me that I could do it, write about that kind of guy and make him accessible,
because I KNOW those guys, was married to one, have dated them on and off my
entire life. I wanted to write about the guys and not make them ‘bad boys’, but
just real guys that had some attitude and edge.

If you could have lunch with any author (past or
present) who would it be?
JD Salinger is my favorite, but he was a shut in
and supposedly really mean. Living I guess it would be JR Ward. I love her. I
think her world building and storytelling is just dynamite.

What book are you reading right now?Nothing. I’m working on edits of Rome and another
series I have cooking. I’ve been too busy to read for the summer, which is a
bummer. My TBR list is growing and growing.

What do you do in your spare time?Play with my dogs, hang out with my bestie, and
spend all my money shopping online. I do like to read when I have time and I
used to travel but now traveling is part of my job so that isn’t as much of
leisure activity as it used to be.

Can you tell us what you are working on right
now?
A story about a boy who is very, very bad. I
thought the idea of having a main character that was so flawed, so inherently
bad by nature and circumstance would be interesting to explore. I wanted to try
and write a book very different than the Marked Men series, more fanciful and less
realistic.

Anything else we should know about you?Like what? My shoe size? J I love my readers and love hearing from them. I do what I do because they
gave me that opportunity. This journey has been wonderful and exciting and I
appreciate every second of it.

If you want to come see me and get Rule once he’s
in print I’ll be in Vancouver the 26th of Oct and in Houston the 2nd
of Nov.
