Author Spotlight/Interview: Sharon Hamilton

Sharon’s NYT and USA Today bestselling novels are
almost-erotic Navy SEAL stories of the SEAL Brotherhood. Her characters
follow a spicy road to redemption through passion and true love. All of her SEAL
Brotherhood
Series are available in audio book. She has maintained an
Amazon top 100 author status in Romantic Suspense since the end of 2012.
Her Golden Vampires of Tuscany are not like any vamps you’ve
read before, since they don’t have to go to ground, and can walk around in the
full light of the sun. Honeymoon Bite, Book 1 of the Golden
Vampires of Tuscany Series, has earned the Amazon designation of #1 Gothic
Romance. It and Book 2 in the series, Mortal Bite are both available on
audio as well.
Her Guardian Angels struggle with the
human charges they are sent to save, often escaping their vanilla world of
Heaven for the brief human one. You won’t find any of these beings in any
Sunday school class. All three books in this popular series are also in print
and audio formats.
A lifelong organic gardener, Sharon lives with her husband
in the Wine Country of Northern California, where most of her stories take
place. When she’s not writing, she’s getting verra verra dirty in the mud, or
wandering Farmer’s Markets looking for new Heirloom varieties of vegetables and
flowers.

Interview With Sharon

What
is your favorite writing snack?
I drink lots of coffee when I’m editing. I drink wine or water or
margaritas when I’m writing.
Apples, celery, carrots. I stay away from chips or cheese or salty
things when I’m writing,
Because sitting in one place for so long makes me retain water, so
I avoid those foods.
If I’m frustrated, M&Ms and Junior Mints or milk chocolate
bars.
Are
you a plotter or a pantser?
Kind of a hybrid. I plot out loosely, not chapter by chapter. I
know where the arc of the
Story is going. I do sometimes change it.
What
are your must have writing accessories?
Scented candles, good spa music, or movie soundtracks (no words).
My favorites are Secret Garden, Two Steps From Hell, Ritual Cello,
Paul Cardel
(Now playing The Martian soundtrack all the time) – Thomas
Bergensen,
and I often play the same track all day while I get through certain
scenes.

Do
you have any advice for other writers?
Keep writing. Most the problems of being a writer go away if you
keep writing,
Along with keep learning. Great idea to switch editors if you want
a good licking.
Being a successful writer is a marathon, not a sprint. Others may
pass you up
Temporarily, but you want long sustained growth to achieve your
financial goals.
Make sure you stay connected with your readers, other authors, but
don’t be
Running after each new fad.
If
you could work with any author who would it be?
I’d like a day with E.L. James, JR Ward, Diana Gabaldon, talking
plotting, writer
Strategy. Bella Andre and Barbara Freethy too for unstoppable
business sense.
How
did you come up with The Guardian series?

My house burned down in 2008. It was the worst time for us
financially, too. There
Was a slowdown in my principle business, real estate, and we had
lots of hurdles to
Go through with the insurance, the county for our rebuild and our
lender, who was in
The process of being taken over by the Feds. A few other more
personal things also
Happened. I kept feeling the presence of Guardian Angels, like
there were angels
All around me, protecting me.
And then I wondered what it would look, taste, feel like to be a
guardian who fell in
Love with her human charge? What if he was a gorgeous Brazilian
painter tormented
By a dark angel? What if a guardian longed to be human? I began writing
on December 15, 2008
And finished a rough draft of this book by January 15th
2009. That was Heavenly Lover,
And it finaled under another name in several contests, but the
first one, surprisingly, was
An erotica contest, and within 6 months I had a small press
contract I turned down. I
Realized two things: I could write and finish a story and still
love it after 57 rewrites, and
I could write decent sex scenes.
Out
of all the characters you’ve written who is your favorite?
I always fall in love with the hero I’m writing at the time. I
think T.J. Talbot is still my favorite
(SEAL’s Promise), although I’m still a little hung up on Jameson
Daniels from Nashville SEAL.
What
question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview?
Can I help you sell audio books?
In my opinion, there aren’t enough review sites and Audio book reviewers. There are some, but because they are so few
and far between, these s
ometimes “hold court” and others only review for audio publishers.
There are millions of
Audio listeners, and growing every day. Many people of foreign
tongues listen to English audio books.
I would love discussions on audio listening, meet other audio fans.
What
are you working on now?
Just completed Nashville SEAL. Will be working on True Navy Blue
series, a novella for Fredo in
The SEAL Brotherhood series, and then the next Band of Bachelors.
My next full-length book won’t come out now until 2016.
Do
you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I value and cherish the interaction
I get to have with readers. Would love to stay connected, but the only way I
can do that now is to send out a Newsletter. I have a wonderful website
at:  authorsharonhamilton.com which has
links to all my books, audio books, snippets, interviews. I blog every Sunday
on my personal blog, and once a month on two other group blogs. I’m always
available for a character interview, or bloggers can repost my blog posts at
any time and use them. Make sure you send me the link so I can promote you too.
I have an active street team, and
am accepting new people, but not writers or would-be writers, please. We all do
support each other, but I’m growing my team of bloggers and readers, mainly.
If you like to beta read, and read Romantic
Suspense, Military Romance or Paranormal, be sure to contact me.
I get to live the life of my dreams
because I write for you guys, the readers. Without
You, I wouldn’t have a job. So,
thank you for making the decision to buy my books and audios.
Love to you all, and have a wonderful
Holiday Season. Stay safe. If you see something, say something, PLEASE. Let’s
take some of the pressure off our vets.
