Books Into Movies

More and more books are being made into movies. On one hand,  I get really excited to see some of my favorite books come to life on a big screen, however; on the other hand, I’m worried that the book won’t be portrayed right or key parts won’t be there. I know, I know, a movie will never be as good as a book; but is it wrong to hope it will be? I don’t believe so.
One of my favorite book adaptations was The Stand by Stephen King. I think the reason behind this was because it was a mini-series and was able to pack more of the book into the movie. The actors were also spot-on for the characters. I also think it is a good sign when the author is really involved in the making of the movie.

Whereas, the I Am Number Four didn’t flow right in the movie for me.  There just appeared to be a lot missing. I can’t quite put my finger on what it needed but I didn’t feel the intensity that I felt while reading the book. I was disappointed.

With the Hunger Games I anxiously awaited to see how Katniss would be portrayed. I was concerned about Jennifer Lawrence getting the part however; seeing Jennifer play Katniss put all of that concern to rest. Now I am patiently waiting for Catching Fire which will be released on November 22nd, 2013.
I am really going to embarrass myself by this but I have not read any of the Harry Potter books. Ok….you can kick me! I have watched the movies though. I have been told by many people that the books are better than the movies; but I really did love the movies. I have the books and plan on reading them soon J. I promise!

Let’s not forget the Twilight series. Although I do love watching the movies I continually get irritated by the differences between the books and movie. With that being said though, I love watching these movies. I think the actors are spot-on for the characters and you can really feel all of the emotions that the book delivered. The final movie will be released on November 16th, 2012.
Now let’s look into the future for upcoming book adapted movies…..
The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien will be released on the big screen on December 14th, 2012. Since I am a HUGE Lord Of The Rings fan I am very eager for this movie. I loved these books and can’t wait for this!  If this movie is anything like the Lord Of The Rings series I will not be disappointed.
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. The movie will hit the big screen in February 1st, 2013. I loved this book so much. I’m excited to see R on the screen but with so much of the book being R’s thoughts I’m concerned how it will come across on the big screen. I was pleased to see how the zombie make-up is. It looks pretty realistic based upon the pictures I have seen.
The Host by Stephenie Meyer will be released on March 29th, 2013. The one thing that I hope for this movie is the first half of it will grab me. I hate to admit this, but reading this book was a struggle for the first half of it. I had to force myself to continue reading it and I am glad I did, because once I made it over that halfway hump it flowed better and grabbed me.

I love the Beautiful Creatures series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.  It will be released on February 13th, 2013. The movie is based upon the first book of the series. I actually think this will be an easy movie conversion. However; like the Twilight series, there is so much going on in the book there will, more than likely be, stuff that won’t be in the movie. As long as the style and undertone of the book is present I’ll be a happy camper.
Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare will hit the big screen on August 23rd, 2013. I am sad to say that I have not read this series yet L but I do intend on reading it prior to the movie being released. With that being said, I don’t have any thoughts at this time about the movie.

Matched by Allie Condie will be hitting the big screen in the future as David Slade was just announced as the director; which pleases me. Another great book which a lot happening within it. The tone of the movie will be imperative.
Divergent is rumored to be released in the first quarter of 2014. I have not yet read this book yet (I know I need to J) so I don’t have any anxiety about the movie adaptation.

There are also some “in development” book based movies. These being, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. I know there are other books where the movie rights have been bought by a film company however; no further progress has been made. With these two stated books there are no directors listed nor any other information so it is unknown when/if they will hit the big screen.
At the end of the day, I think it is great that we are able to see our favorite books hit the screen; even though there may some very poor adaptations as a result. What are your thoughts? Are you aware of any other books which will be hitting the big screen in the future?
