A fan of audiobooks, I happen to stumble upon the Cake Series by J. Bengtsson completely by accident. While I’d seen a few make comments and recommendations here and there about the series, I didn’t initially pay a whole lot of attention to them.
First off the title Cake is a bit non-descriptive in my opinion. It didn’t really catch my interest. But I can tell you that title aside, this is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable book series that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. And once read, you’ll understand the reference of the title.
The series currently is comprised of 4 books – the first 3 featuring a different member of the McKallister family; with the initial book focused on Jake McKallister and Casey Caldwell. The newest in the series, Cake: The Newlyweds also happens to feature this same couple.
This new one is a sequel…you do need to read the first book in the series BEFORE reading this one. You don’t necessarily need to read books 2 and 3 in order to read the new one; but I believe that once you start this series, you’re going to want to continue and read the others.
Book 4 picks up shortly after book 1…with key elements from books 2 & 3. Cake: The Newlyweds contains the same lighthearted, comedic relief present in each book in the series. And while humous and funny; there are some series elements that are equally as serious in the story. This is a well rounded, well written story. This series was one of my top reads from 2017 and I highly recommend them to each of you.
